Using SharePoint to index/search a web site

Asked By: Pamela    Date: Oct 02    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1046

Anyone here have experience setting up SharePoint 2003 to index their
web site and then modifying the "Search" option on the site to call
SharePoint and display the results?

We would really not be using the rest of SharePoint - just letting it
be the index and search server.

We are thinking of implementing this instead of writing our own
search/index solution.

There is a good resource out there which came out
about six months ago...and mine is taddered to say the
least it is called
Microsoft Sharepoint Product and Technologies.
Resource Kit> Great resource for the SharePoint

For a quick and dirty explaination; it is a one time
shot at setting  up the index once it is setup it is on
and there is not turning around your portal will be
doing crawls so it would be in your best interest to
purchase this resource. In about 20 minutes you will
be doing all the crawls you want...chapters 21 and 22
have all the indexing and crawling and ability to
display it in the search window in the portal. Hope
that helps.
