SharePoint and HelpDesk

Asked By: Joshua    Date: Jun 16    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2261

Does anyone have any experience using SharePoint as a helpdesk system?
We currently are using a 3rd party helpdesk system that no one really
likes. Some have talked about moving to use an issues list in
SharePoint, but I am hesitant to use that to replace a large, robust
helpdesk system (ours has reporting features and lots of functionality,
but it's got a terrible interface).

If you haven't used OOB SharePoint, are there any helpdesk add-ons for
SharePoint that anyone has used? What has your experience been like?

As a first step, you might want to look at the Help Desk template provided with
the Microsoft Fab40. I haven't seen it yet but the other role-based templates.

The Microsoft tempate is aweful. There are a couple thurd party
templates, but if you don't have a programer to customize you are
going to run into roadblocks. We are testing CorasWorks right now
which is a software that goes on top of Sharepoint allows you to
cusomize without code. It seems to fill in alot of the gaps. You
should have them come and present their software and cost.

Microsoft has a Help Desk application template for WSS 3.0 (It also works with
MOSS). I would try loading it to a test environment to see if it works for
you. Here's the link to download it:

BTW, they have a bunch of other templates that could be useful.
