Sharepoint hangs, no response [solution]

Asked By: Raghav    Date: Apr 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2423

I've complained and complained to the group about sharepoint's
instability (or it's ability to let me make it so unstable, however you want
to look at it). Several have chimed in with "me too!" or "what's that you
say? I never have problems".

In each case, what usually happens is that the WEB workspace stops
responding, but the WEB FOLDERS still work. And, in each case, what I end
up doing is net stop of four services, then net start of each. This
sometimes fixes it, but usually I get an error trying to stop a service
(usually IIS) and I end up having to reboot.

Well, I learned something in the SPS Summit last week that I'd never heard
before -- iisreset. So today when SPS locked up again, I tried it, and it
worked great. It only took about 2 seconds to run and within 10 seconds, my
users were able to access sharepoint again.

Just thought I'd throw that out there to you all to see if a) it helps you
in your SPS stability battles or b) if anyone else can say they use it or
have other ideas to help.

I'm probably going to implement an iisreset every night with the msdmback
