Sharepoint and Exchange client components on same server

Asked By: Meera    Date: Sep 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1173

I installed Sharepoint on a server and then my co-worker installed
Exchange server 2000 client components (not the entire server
install, but just a couple tools needed for our backup software to
correctly backup Exchange mailboxes). These two Exchange client tools
need to remain on the server in order for the backup software to
function correctly.

Now when I try to upgrade Sharepoint to Service Pack 1, it says...

"When installed on a machine with Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or
greater, this product requires that the Microsoft Exchange
Information Store service be installed prior to running SharePoint
Portal server setup."

So it appears that Sharepoint thinks that I have installed the entire
Exchange software package, when I have really only installed a couple
programs (System Manager, Active Directory Users and Groups).

What are my options now? Do I need to uninstall Sharepoint and
reinstall it? Or do I need to install the entire Exchange server? As
I understand from Microsoft's readme file, it's not recommended to
have Exchange and Sharepoint on the same server, but what about these
client components. Is there a workaround that someone knows of?
