SharePoint Event Handler parameters

  Asked By: Alec    Date: Mar 03    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1441

I need to create an event handler in Sharepoint which will fire
whenever someone submits an item to a document library via email. This
event will determine the subject line of the email and move it to an
appropriate subfolder.

The tricky bit is that I would like to configure the folder heirachy
for each document library I chose to enable this event on. So for
library 1 I would like to place all incoming emails in the \email
folder. For Library 2 I'd like to place it in the \company name\email
folder, etc.

Is there any way to build an event handler that has some configuration
screen within SharePoint? I'm assuming I'll be deploying this handler
using a feature.

You want an SPEmailEventReceiver. It gets 3 parameters  (an SPList
representing the list receiving the email, an SPEmailMessage
representing the email, and a string with any extra data).

Also, if you install and activate the receiver using the object model
you can specify a 255 character string as the Data property of the event
receiver to pass configuration info into the receiver.
