SharePoint Email Workflow: How do you remove # symbol?

A workflow email has been created. However, in the body of my email, I have
included approval status and it shows the following output...
1;#Rejected by firstname.lastname.

How do I remove the # symbol?

Highlight the # and press delete..
Put the cursor immediately after the # and press the backspace key....

What field type is that? Also, which version of SharePoint? Are you using
Designer or Visual Studio?

It is SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint Designer was used.
Not sure what the field type is.
