Sharepoint Documents will not open from Sharepoint link

When I try to open a document on sharepoint via the link in the document list the file does not open.
I get the "read only / check out and edit" option popup. When I click read-only the correct appliaction opens up but I the file does not open.

It's sharepoint 2007 and I'm running the Office 2010 Beta.

I have the exact same problem for multiple users, all running MOSS2007 and Office2007. Same problem exists even if i am logged in as farm admin.
