SharePoint Document Library Views Dynamic

Asked By: Jenny    Date: Sep 10    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2371

I need to set up a document library that will contain
documents for different types of products, but also based on geography.
I would like end users to be able to select criteria (such as the
product and the geography), and only be able to see the documents that
meet that criteria. I can create views, but views are not cumulative. I
could create a "Product - USA" view, but I would have to create separate
views for all possible combinations, which would be quite cumbersome.
Any ideas how this could be accomplished in SharePoint WSSv3.

As a "low-tech" solution you could just show the users  how to use the
column filtering (i.e. like excel's ability to filter on valid values
in the sheet).

It will do multi-column filtering, but I haven't been able to find a
way for it to do multi-value filtering within a single column (e.g.
any products  in either USA or CANADA).

Don't forget that, for each view, you can sort, filter, and group. So you
could display all Quarterly Sales reports (based on a cusotm Category
field), sorted in reverse chronological order, and grouped by region or
country. Users could then quickly locate what they need from a larger list.

While this is not a full SQL query capability, it could significantly reduce
the number of views  that you have to create.

It sounds like the Filter web parts might be a good solution to this.
for example, you could add several different Choice Filter web parts to
the page, and create  web part connections from each of them to your
