Sharepoint in DMZ

Asked By: Lauren    Date: Sep 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 2782

We currently have a Sharepoint Portal Sever running within our Intranet. The
plan is to move this Sharepoint Portal Server into our DMZ.
I have little knowledge about networking but I have read the "Deploying SPS
across an Extranet" document.

Has anyone has any experience in moving SPS to a DMZ? What steps are
involved and how much of the Extranet document applies to this scenario?

It should not have any affect with you having SPS in the DMZ. I have
implemented a project where SPS is currently residing in the DMZ and I
have not had any problems. The only problems I foresee will probably
have to do with your network and firewalls but not SPS.

Did you have to follow any of the steps  in the Extranet document?

Our sps  users will be accessing the SPS server  in the DMZ via a firewall.

You have to follow the steps  in that document  in order to make your SPS
available via extranet. There is also a tool out there that will
automatically make your site extranet, but I have not been successful
getting the site to work correctly once it goes through the
configuration. You can give that tool a try, it's located here:

You might have better luck than I did.
