SharePoint Designer Workflows

Asked By: Caleb    Date: Oct 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 7530

Can SharePoint Designer workflows:

1: Include a description like the OOTB Approva workflow on the Workflows page
where it says "Routes a document for approval. Approvers can approve or reject
the document, reassign the approval task, or request changes to the document. "?

2: Restrict who can initiate the workflow when the workflow is configured to
start manually?

1. Where do you want this description  to show up? I'm not familiar with
that attribute, but remember, OOTB workflows  are very different from SPD
workflows in the way they are deployed and used.

2. AFAIK, SPD workflows always run in the context of the current user, so if
the user has rights on the list to which the workflow  is attached, then they
can run the workflow. One way around this might be to restrict  access to
the form used to initiate  the workflow.

When you look at the list\library and you pull down the context menu and and you
click "Workflow", you land on the /_layouts/Workflow.aspx?ID=... page. Here
your SPD workflow  appears under the OOTB workflows: "Approval" and "Collect

Those OOTB workflows  have a description; for example the Approvals workflow
says: Routes a document  for approval. approvers  can approve  or reject the
document, reassign the approval  task, or request  changes to the document.

I'd like to get rid of them AND add a description  to my SPD workflow.

I am pretty sure you CANNOT put any "description" onto a SPD WF. We've spent
several hours trying - nope. Also checked with one of the WF training gurus,
no dice.
