Sharepoint Database Design

Asked By: Mohammad    Date: Feb 12    Category: MOSS    Views: 1967

Is the database architecture and design of MOSS 2007 content and
configuration databases given anywhere. I am curious to know. I was trying
to reset the start value in a Custom List by updating the tp_NextAvailableID
in the AllLists table of a content database, for that particular list.
Though I could update this successfully, when I tried adding a new item to
that list after this, I got an error.

My advice? Never, ever play with the content database.

Microsoft used to publish the layout of the databases for sharepoint  prior
to version 2003. But that led to people being tempted to try to change
things in the database, which is not permitted. So starting with SharePoint
2007 they stopped publishing this information. To the best of my knowledge
it isn't available anywhere. Accessing the SharePoint databases directly
will void your warranty and support agreement. As you found out, making
changes directly in the database  often leads to errors. You should never
access or change the SharePoint database directly.
