SharePoint BDC Alternative

I'm looking for an alternative to Microsoft's BDC for Windows SharePoint
v.3. I really like the BDC feature, but can't bring myself to pay
$40,000 just for that!

If you have any recommendations, or if a vendor wants to ping me
