Sharepoint backups

Asked By: Stacey    Date: Nov 16    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 688

What exactly is the backup in sharepoint doing? Where are the actual
web pages being stored, in the database or the servers. Does anyone
have a sure fire way to carve out the needed space for Sharepoint on a
San. Or any suggestions.

The OOTB SharePoint backups  are based on SQL backup  in most cases, and
the export/import on either web packages (SPS2003/WSS2) or the Content
Migration API (XML in a cab - MOSS2007/WSS3). Most of the content lives
in the database, in general the only stuff that lives on the file system
are the templates that new content is built from and some of the
MOSS/SPS search index content.
