Sharepoint authentication mods

Asked By: Samir    Date: Dec 12    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 611

Sharepoint PS v2 appears to utilize a combination of asp.net and iis6
authentication mechansims. Would this imply we could use 3rd party isapi
modules to modify the way sharepoint authenticates? My readings suggest
that we could use possibly use, for example, opennetwork isapi modules
to allow federated identity authentication, rather than having to use
native windows authentication (even if the 3rd party is using AD for
authentication).

Wondering if anyone has tried modifying authentication in the portal?
And if so how you approached it?

I realize that most companies who have a centralized IT with control
over users might not possibly see the point in this, but in a so-called
"free" academic environment this becomes a crucial issue.
