SharePoint Applications

Asked By: Devika    Date: Apr 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 573

Can someone please point me to a location or company that has developed
applications for SharePoint? My company wants to be able to answer the
question "What can this product do for me besides just document
management?"

Microsoft just acquired the enterprise search company  "FAST" to boost the
sharepoint growth and integrate the same into CMS and other MS products in terms
of 'search' space.....
[money.cnn.com/.../IBD-0001-22119793.htm]

Sharepoint is a billion dollar business for MS and its just not a document
sharing tool..... sharepoint  now gets integrated into many MS owned ERP products
like CRM, Dynamics and other applications....

Take a look at some mirosoft sites, and you can justfiy with many facts to
your company....

I personally think that Microsoft will rip out the search/index technology in
sharepoint and replace it with FAST. sharepoint  has a fairly low treshhold of
the amount of docs the index can handle compared to for instance archiving
systems these days hold. A few billion objects isn't really a big deal in a
single archive.

FAST is an extremely cool company  and I'd recommend looking at some of the
products and research they have been doing.

I personally think that's unlikely, since the search core is shared with
MSN/Live Search and I don't see that going away anytime soon

Knowing the release cycles of MS it could very well be that they could replace
it in the next version. People should be excited about this technology though.
Fasts Radar technology http://www.fastsearch.com/thesolution.aspx?m=645 is
fascinating. FASTs InStream technology has been embedded in tons of software
applications. With all the pieces that MSFT has been buying lately they are
sure on track to build something very impressive.
