Sharepoint Alerts SPS2003

Asked By: Dana    Date: Feb 09    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 561

I was asked if SPS2003 has the ability to send an alert or email for a
document that has been stagnet for x number of days. This is a document
that would reside in a document library. I know you can send alerts for
documents that have changed in any way, but is there a way to send one
for a document that hasn't changed? If so, how would you go about
setting that up?

As I have not heard of an answer, I am resubmitting the question in
hopes that someone else has come across this request.

Not out of the box. It may be something you could program from
scratch if you are comfortable with programming using VB or C#.

You haven't heard anything because I don't think it's possible. At least not
out of the box.

Another option would be to create a custom application. You
would have to create an application that scanned all the documents and
checked the dates against the current date and then take the created By
username check it for an email  address and then email them. It is not as
complicated as you think if you can code. It works really well this way. I
like the idea from Edgard as well. Just depends what your ultimate
requirement and functionality are.

Actually it is possible to build a calculated column that would allow
you to tag documents that exceed "x" number  of days, you can have those
exceptions appear in a special document  library and you can build an
Alert Me on that library  to send  you a e-mail whenever a document is
placed in that library.

Not automatic, but it is possible.
