Sharepoint Administration

Asked By: Stacey    Date: Nov 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 891

I am facing an issue with regards to back up.

Recently we handed over the server to the It guys in my company and they
told us that we cannot use adminstrator id to logon to the server.

Is it possible that my windows nt login can be made administrator only for
sharepoint so that i can take backup and can access sharepoint central

I removed myself from admin and added in the Share Point Admin Group in
sharepoint portal central administration.

These are the issues i faced When i connect through remote desktop.

1)Not able to access  share point central admin.

2)When i try and open the GUI for backup  it throws a message.

The configuration database could not be found from this server. In order to
backup any components you must first join this server  to a farm.

Ours is a single server and we are using sql server 2000.
We Have set the sql server to mixed authentication mode.

To use RDP you need to be in Local Admin group or must have added explicitly
(Control Panel >> System >> Remote Tab).

Even after you logged on using RDP, (I think!!) you still need to be in
Local Admin group to run SP CLI backup/restore commands.

Being part of SP Admin Group allows you to have access  to GUI based admin

We felt a need for a Sharepoint administration  tool which can give us
audit and security reports about who has access  to what sites etc.
This would also help us in cases where people change groups/dept or
termination from compliance and information rights management

We came across a tool called Universal sharepoint  Manager (USPM) from
iDevFactory (www.idevfactory.com). However we are having problems
with this company  to procure USPM as they would not meet our
corporate Terms & Conditions.

Few questions:

1) Do you have any info on this company or had any experience with
them in the past.

2) Can you suggest any alternative (competitive) product(s) from
other vendor(s) which has similar functionality?

I would suggest you look at DeliverPoint, produced by Barracudatools.com.

The Deliverpoint installation runs into the following error:

err# 1720: There is a problem with this windows  installer package. A
script required for this install to complete could not be run.
Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

There are no further messages in Event Viewer on the server  regarding
this err.

I have sent an email to Barracudatools.com support team.
