Sharepoint 2010 on windows 7 Home premium edition

Asked By: Hiral    Date: Jan 08    Category: Sharepoint 2010    Views: 3406

I am trying to install SharePoint 2010 on windows 7 Home premium edition.
Everything goes well without any problem At last after completion of running
Config wizards I am getting Page Cannot be displayed error. I rechecked each and
every step. While enabling windows features my computer don't have Digest
authentication and windows authentication. I came to know that Windows 7 home
premium doesn't support these authentication. Can we install Sharepoint 2010
without windows authentication feature??

Could any one help me to install Sharepoint 2010 without winds authentication
enabling or is there any otherway to workaround this problem. Please help as I
was fed up with this issue since 1 week..

I ran into a similar problem. What you need to do is set the application pools
to "Basic Authentication" in IIS. After that, you should be able to log in
using local machine accounts. If your local machine account does not have a
password then it won't work.

In general the difference between the Home and regular versions of Win 7 are
in the areas of Network support. In earlier versions of the instructions
on TechNet Microsoft specifically stated that Win 7 Home was NOT supported.
That has been removed, but I suspect you will need to do additional setup
steps that aren't documented to do the install on Home Premium to make up
for the differences.

I did some more checking yesterday. The problem is that Windows 7 Home Premium
doesn't support Windows Integrated Authentication in IIS. That's one of the
basic requirements for SharePoint. You'll need to upgrade your copy of
Windows 7 to professional or you won't be able to successfully install
SharePoint. Take a look at the following page and you'll see what I mean
under digest and windows Integrated authentication.

There is actually a trick that allows to solve the "Windows Integrated Authentication" issue on Home Premium.

My blog (and video) at www.rl-soft.com/.../Post.aspx?ID=21 goes through the details on how to achieve this.

Hope that helps!
