SharePoint 2010 User Alerts not being sent out

We did an in-place upgrade on one of our MOSS environments and user alerts are
working fine. This is Farm A.

Farm B is an OOTB installation of SharePoint 2010.

We did a sql backup of the 3 User Profile databases from Farm A. We restored
them to SQL Server on Farm B, deleted the default User Profile application, and
created a new User Profile application from the 3 restored databases.

We can see/edit everyone's alerts on Farm B but they do not fire when new items
are added to the list.

Any new alerts we create on Farm B do work, it is just the ones we restored that
are not working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you make sure that all your web apps are subscribed to the new User
Profile Service Application you created?

I checked in Central Admin and we have one web application (sharepoint 80) and
it is using the default application proxy group. The new UP proxy is part of the
default group.

Is this what you mean by "subscribed"?

Has the URL or Host header changed for Farm B ?

Yes. The urls are different.

Here is what we did exactly.

We took a backup of our current production (inet.____.com) and restored to a
dev box (http://it-spsupgrade) and did an inplace upgrade to SharePoint
2010. Alerts from production work fine on this in-place upgrade box, even
though the URL is different from production.

Then we created a new User Profile app from the databases from the in-place
upgrade on yet another box (http://it-ank), an ootb install of SharePoint
2010. This is where the old alerts do not work.

When upgrade to 2010 "for real" we will end up with the same url as today's
production. Are you thinking that those User Alerts will work at that point
because it will be the same URL they were created on?

I think I am okay with this now. It seems the problem is that the host
header is different.

Once we upgrade our production farm to 2010 we will end up with the same url
the alerts were created for so this should not be a problem.
