SharePoint 2010 sync with Outlook, schedule?

I have a user that is sync'ing calendars in SharePoint back to Outlook. He
wants real-time sync'ing but, my understanding is that SP can either complete
this action within a few seconds and up to a few minutes depending on available
resources. Can anyone point me to official word on this?
