sharepoint 2007 SP1 release notes summary

Asked By: Daniel    Date: Sep 10    Category: MOSS    Views: 911

I thought that some of you might be interested in a SP1 release notes
summary that I found on the web.

The original post is in Polish but you can still get the gist of it.

http://tinyurl.com/35447e

Main highlights are:-

AJAX support

Remote Blog storage API

New stsadm commands

People picker scoping to an OU

60+ hotfixes

As for a release date, nothing confirmed, rumours of available for
Microsoft internal pre Christmas so I guess public available hopefully
January.

As for the remote blob storage (ie use a remote file systems to store
the docs). This one scares me from a backup and restore fidelity point
of view.

From what I've heard this is not meant to replace content db's but just
meant to handle the slow performance of large files stored as blobs.
Also I'm not sure if it get past the max file size of 2GB.

The STSADM commands have already shown up in pre-SP1 patches. I did a
blog write-up on mergecontentdbs here,

Does anyone have a list of recommended patches that should be applied to a new
wss / moss installation ?

Certainly Win2k3 SP2 and WSS SP1 at a minimum.

The Director of Search said in a meeting yesterday that SP1 will be
released in February. Comes with all the new Search 2008 functionality.

I'd heard that Search Server 2008 full licensed version would be out in
March and that the search functionality it added (for us the main
feature we are interested in is the federated search), would not be
added to MOSS till a post SP1 feature pack or more than likely in SP2.

I'm still not convinced that the search 2008 feature will be in MOSS SP1
as it's a fairly big item and I'm sure it would have rated a mention on
the release  notes info that has been posted so far.

....On the other hand if it is included woohoo!, makes my life much
easier for doing a federated search of 12 x MOSS farms globally.

He MSS features will not be in SP1, but a portion
will be released in a post-SP1 update. See
blogs.msdn.com/.../recent-sharepoint-search
-announcement.aspx for more info.

Odd. He made such a point of saying that it would be part of SP1 in
February, with the independent (non MOSS) release  to the public being in
March. Oh well....

SharePoint SP1 is supposed to be out before the end of this year.

I think you (or he) might have gotten it backward - the features will
appear in Search Server 2008 before they are available in MOSS, and they
will be in a post-SP1 update.
