SharePoint 2007 SP1 - Moving content database question

Asked By: Daniel Mclean         Date: Oct 11, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 290

I'm building a new 64 bit server and running SharePoint SP1 on it. I
want to move portal's from another server onto this. The server with
existing portals does not have SP1 installed. So my question - Can I
attach a portal content database from a non-SP1 server onto a server
that is SharePoint SP1.

Yes and no. Yes you can attach it, but once you do the schema will
automatically be updated to SP1 and it will no longer be useable on your
non-SP1 servers.

Actually, I've got to disagree. It depends on whether the SP1 servers
have ever had an SP1 content  database. If you update an existing farm
to SP1 you can no longer attach non-SP1 content databases to the farm.
It will only update the schema of the databases if you detached the
databases before you did the SP1 upgrade. Either way, as Bryan said
there is no going back.
