SharePoint 2007 list permissions

Asked By: Grace    Date: May 26    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1580

I want give a group of users view and add permissions on a list - I
don't want them to be able to update or delete. This is easy to do in
SharePoint 2003, but I can't find a way to assign permissions
individually in 2007 (beta). Am I just missing something here?

Go to the list  itself, click Settings in the toolbar, then List Settings. Under the second column in the top section (before the columns), there’s a link stating something like “Advanced Permissions” or something like that. That’s where you’ll find it.

This isn't quite doing what I want, though. I can
specify which items users can edit here, so I set it to "None" - but
now they can't add items either. Is there anywhere else where I can
separately set read, add, edit, and delete permissions, like in
SharePoint 2003?

You need to create a new Permission Level.

You get there through something like Advanced Permissions | Settings
| Permission Levels and then click Add a Permission Level. Then just
name the permission and check the boxes next to Add and View.
