SharePoint 2007 Hardware Requirements

Asked By: Keaton    Date: Feb 11    Category: MOSS    Views: 1276

Can anyone tell me how SharePoint 2007 hardware design differs (if any)
from SharePoint 2003? We installed a highly-available medium server
farm in September 2005 and need to know if we should budget additional
hardware for expansion during the coming year.

Requirements should be similar if not lower. It has been my experience that MOSS Beta 2 works really well on similar hardware  as 2003.

The important point to note is that Microsoft removes the topology and farm requirements, i.e. you can add servers as needed without restriction on small, medium and large farm

Similar if not lower? I’m not sure I’d agree with the part that the performance of 2007 will be better than 2003. Not saying it will be worse though. Remember, we’re only at beta 2 and we also just saw the product RTM date pushed back 2 months for MSFT to focus on performance issues. If you stood up a good solid box last September, I’d expect you’d be in good shape.

I’d expect we’ll see some performance numbers/guidelines around the Beta 2 Tech Refresh timeframe.
