SharePoint 2007 Auditing

Asked By: Antoinette    Date: Feb 13    Category: MOSS    Views: 1284

I am looking for a way to log when a user accesses a document, list or
item in SharePoint 2007.
I have found ways to audit Creation, Deletion, modification, and
uploading through event handlers but not access.
Is this possible in SharePoint or does anyone know of a 3rd party tool
that would do this?

If you have MOSS (as opposed to just WSS). You can turn on Auditing
policies for each List or Library that you want to Audit. To do this go
to the Document Library or list settings and create an Information
Management Policy. In the Policy you want to turn on the Auditing
Policy and select the events that you wish to audit.

I should have mentioned that we have WSS and not MOSS due to
licensing expense.

Is there any way in WSS to do this?
