SharePoint 2007

Asked By: Gregory    Date: Sep 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 604

I am thankful for this website. I do have some quick questions about
upgrading from SharePoint 2003 to 2007.

Is it as simple as loading the 07 software on top of the 03 software?
Will it keep all settings and just replicate them over to 07?
Does everyone need office 07 to take full advantage of Sharepoint 07?
Can we run office 03 and Sharepoint 07 with no issues? Eventually I will
convert everyone to office 07.
I love the recycle bin that is built in.

The scenario really depends on your current environment?

If your farm is not huge, a in place upgrade will be fine as it will
update your web apps and such to MOSS 2007.

If it is large, you can do what they call a gradual upgrade, in which
keeping two farms up. Or just install MOSS 2007 from scratch and run a
few command lines of stsadm commands to attach the content databases.

If you really want to take advantage of the MOSS 2007, yes Office 2007
will help (especially with RSS fields and such). But running Office
2003 works fine.

It depends pretty much on your environment. There are many
articles on the net and microsoft site, make use of them. But make sure you have
the necessary backup of the database in tact before migration....
