Sharepoint 2003 Shared Services

We enabled the Shared Services in SPS 2003.
Now we want to disable the shared services.

Can anybody faced this issue, if you have any idea.

ya we tried this thing..
we taken backup of the existing portal and trying it restoring it in another
server.
We faced the following issue and got the following error.

The portal site being restored uses shared  services, but there is no shared
services provider configured for the current server farm. Restore this
portal site to a server farm that has a shared services  provider.

Can anybody faced the issue like this..
Expecting help from all the gr8 sharepoint  developers...
