SharePoint 2003 Requirements

Asked By: Stella    Date: Oct 31    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1505

I'd like to know if SharePoint Portal Server 2003 can
be loaded on Windows Server 2003 Web Edition and have
that server point to our SQL 2000 Server which sits on
Windows 2000 Server? Is this doable?

You cannot install SPS2003 on 2003 Web Edition.

I recall reading somewhere that between beta and RTM SPS 2003 was revised to
operated on Web Edition “ assuming SQL is on a different server.

Hold on ... you are right ... check
www.microsoft.com/.../sysreq.mspx

"Note Running sharepoint  Portal Server 2003 on Windows Server 2003 Web
Edition requires Microsoft SQL Server(tm) 2000 to be installed on a separate
computer."

But, what if SQL is installed on Windows 2000 Server
will that cause any problems?

That should be fine, as long as all the domain memberships, etc are setup
correctly.
