SharePoint 2003 Profile Database - stale profiles

Is anyone aware or know of an automated process that can be employed to
maintain the SharePoint 2003 profile database?

My main goal is for when accounts are removed from active directory,
they get automatically removed from the SharePoint profile database.

Is there any way that anyone knows to accomplish this?

If the accounts are actually removed from AD, they will disappear from
the SPS profile  database as well after 3 profile syncs.

This is not the case... they will not disappear unless manually purged
from the "View Profiles" admin menus..

They will only be flagged as missing in the dB.

Why would it require 3 profile  synchs?

It's a precaution to make sure the unavailability in AD is not due to a
transient condition (e.g. a Domain Controller or network being down).
