SharePoint 2003 backup and restore questions

Asked By: Palash    Date: Mar 25    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 5904

I am trying to run the Built-in SharePoint 2003 backup and restore feature (This
is from the Start Menu->All Programs->SharePoint Portal Server->SharePoint
Portal Server Backup and Restore), but I get prompted to install the SQL Server
2000 Client Tools. Since the SQL database backend is on another server I
installed the client tools and SP3 on this server and rebooted the system but I
everytime I try to launch the utility I get the same error. I get this same
error if I go to the command prompt and type in spsbackup.

My first question is this. Is this built in backup and restore utility all
inlcusive like msdmback was for SharePoint 2001 where I can restore everything?
I noticed that in this version I can backup individual portal sites as well not
just the entire install.

My next question is why I do I keep on getting prompted to install SQL Server
2000 Client Tools even though I have installed them.

Yes, the backup  will backup and restore  everything.

What you are doing is all that is required to get the backup to work.
The backup utility is looking for sqldmo.dll and will check to make sure
the version of your sqldmo.dll is equal to or higher than 2000.80.760.00
(SQL 2000 SP3)

Try reinstalling it again in case it wasn't registered properly the
first time.
