Sharepoint 2001 permissions

We've been running Sharepoint 2001 for a couple of years now and this is the first time I've run into issues with permissions on folders.

We have a user who was promoted and now given permissions to another folder that has always been there. She can not view this folder even though she has read permissions. I went over to work with her on it and the folder appeared. The next time she opened a fresh browser, the folder disappeared again and she still has permissions to it.

Has this happened to anyone before? Any recommendations on what to try next?
Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Try changing IE Internet Options Temporary Internet files->Settings to 'Every visit...' instead of 'Automatically'

Also,

How about caching on the portal itself? Is the folder inheriting permissions from a parent? Have you opened a web folder to the Document Library and drilled down to the folder in question looking at the security settings along the way?

Have you made any changes to your IIS server? Usually, a change there results in weird events in SPS2001.

Any patches/hotfixes been applied to the server lately?
