Setup production server for WSS 3.0

Asked By: Benjamin    Date: Mar 11    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1498

I have a developer machine, installed with Windows Server 2003 R2 SP1,
using SQL Server 2005, and of course WSS 3.0 installed on that machine.

I named that machine INTRADEV so if I want to open on browser I should
open in http://intradev <http://intradev/>

My question are we're plan to move all WSS application on INTRADEV into
our production environment and I have very little idea how to do this,
how can I do this migration from my INTRADEV machine into INTRA
production machine?

What should I backup first? Is it SQL database or WSS application?

I'm looking any information here.

One thing I always do on my dev box is to set up an alternate access
mapping that matches the production  URL and then add an entry to the
hosts file that points the production URL to the dev IP. That way, if
your code references the site by URL, you know it will move from DEV to
production without an issue. Normally I change the title on the site to
"DEV - SITENAME - DEV" to make sure I am making changes to the DEV

Just a tip. What type of development are you doing? I may be able to
offer some more suggestions.

That is a creative use of the AAM feature. I am curious, however, why
you would put an absolution URL in your code?

You code would be more portable if the code retrieved the url from a
configurable location, such as web.config or a web part property.
