Setup different databases for MOSS 2007 sites

Asked By: Urjita Vichare         Date: Oct 07, 2009      Category: MOSS      Views: 207

I've setup an Intranet site and two team sites. Management is wanting to
setup a records site so we can start scanning all of our offsite
documents. I can see this growing very quickly. Is it possible to setup
a records site that connects to a different database on another server
while still having the original database on the MOSS server?

Since a records center needs to be in its own site collection, preferably its
own WEb application this would be very possible. Either create add a new
content database to the existing web application and point it at a different SQL
server or create a new web application and point it at the new database server.

do you mean you can create a content db in a different sql box? if that is
the case, do we need to manually configure sql permission for farm account or
app pool id account?

You can create additional content databases  on a different SQL box. The app
pool identity account will need authority in that database server as well.
