Setting alert me's for a Distribution List

I don't know if this is possible or not, but does anyone know of a way
to subscribe a distribution list to an alert me?

if you can be a little creative to do that -
Get a dummy AD account.
Associate the distribution  list email address with this dummy account.
logon to site with this dummy account and set the alerts.
Now when alert  will fired it will go to the distribution list  email address
and all the members of the distribution list will be alerted.
