How to set Tasks in outlook from WSS ?

Asked By: Elliot Erickson         Date: Oct 23, 2004      Category: WSS      Views: 268

If I set a Task in WSS and assign that particular task to someone, is there a way where I can send an auto generated email to that guy saying a Task as been assigned to him and which he can track it through his Outlook?

If there is a solution for this, please get back to me.

Check out Microsoft Project Server for that kind of task  management.

Another way to do this is to create your task  list using the Issues
List template. The issues list template has the functionality to
alert the assigned  person automatically when anything is changed to
the list item, including when a list item is created.

It's not perfect, but it works.

Check out the following commercial web part from CorasWorks if it suits your needs.

I tried out the option you mentioned, but it’s not sending an automatic alert to the assigned  person. We need to set  alerts for that issue list then only it generates the alerts. So, this again is manual process.

I have created an Issue List and added my Tasks assigning few. But none of the assignee got any alerts. Is the procedure which I followed is correct ?

If you have any other solutions/options, please get back  to me.

The following should do the trick (as long as your EMail settings for the server are correct):

1. Create a new list based on the issue template.
2. "Change general settings"
3. "Modify settings and columns"
4. set  "EMail Notification" = Yes
