Set alerts for a workspace

Is there anyway to setup alerts on a workspace so a user doesn't have
to click on all of the things in a work space?

You mean something like a global alert setting that covers all possible
alerts in a site? No - there is nothing like this in WSS.

Take a look at the Leadit.SharePoint.Essentials.MyAlerts web part from
weblogs.asp.net/jan/archive/2004/02/12/72079.aspx.

(there's also a navigation and breadcrumb trail web part)

Jan Tielen's Blog site has a number of SharePoint articles.

How about just using:
