ServerVariables

Asked By: Jena    Date: Dec 27    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 621

I have an asp page that I use inside and outside of SharePoint.
Within SharePoint, it is a web part with the content coming from the
asp URL. Since the content is dynamic, I would like the web part not
to be isolated (no scrollbars).

Content is determined by who is logged in using
Request.ServerVariables("Auth_User") and then querying SQL Server.
Unfortunately, for non-isolated URL links, Request.ServerVariables
returns an empty string
(msdn.microsoft.com/.../en-
us/modcore/html/detskTheIsolationOfWebPartsFromOtherWebParts.asp).

The MSDN page shows that you can use "_LogonUser_" as a token
replacement. The only kicker is that the replacement happens AFTER
the query, so that SQL Server sees "select * from Table where ID
= '_LogonUser_'". After the query, the token works fine, but not
before.

If I were convert the asp page into a VbScript Web Part (and then
have to maintain 2 versions), then I can take advantage of the
GetServerVariable SharePoint function. I tried including the
boilerplate.vbs in the resources directory of my workspace (which
houses the function), but that too yields an empty field for the ID.

Any ideas on how I might be able to obtain the ID prior to the query?
