Server Farm: Account Name

  Asked By: Darren    Date: Aug 11    Category: MOSS    Views: 1010

I'm creating seperate security accounts for SharePoint 2007, the setup,
sql, search, search_content, ssp, mysites etc... In my documentation,
I don't understand what the "Server Farm Account" is. Do I create a
Farm account or is it created during setup with the name like
[ServerName]$.

Create a domain account  to serve as the farm  account. It will not be
created automatically. The only account I've seen set up automatically
is a document conversion local account on the WFE server(s) (and three
WSS local security  groups).

I created and used these accounts, (renamed a bit):

* xx_setup

* xx_sql

* xx_search

* xx_search_content

* xx_ssp1

* xx_mysites

I installed SharePoint 2007 with my xx_setup user account. I'm assuming
it's this account  or maybe just a new domain account that I'd use myself
when logging onto the SharePoint server  itself.

At any rate, everything is working fine.

You're welcome. I'd suggest logging into the server  as yourself unless
you have a specific to log in as the setup account  (i.e. running the
configuration wizard).
