Is a separate SQL instance advisable?

Asked By: Jay    Date: Aug 09    Category: MOSS    Views: 1016

I understand that for performance reasons, one might want to create a
separate SQL instance for SharePoint 2007. Other than that, is there
any reason why a separte instance would be advisable? Does the
SharePoint install do anything to SQL other than create DBs (ex. make
changes to Master)? Also, is anyone running SharePoint using SQL 2008 yet?
