How to send alert email in workflow

1-On adding something in sharepoint list (I select automatiically intiate
workflow on adding item)
2-A mails is send to user with his task
3-If user is not updated its specific field in list item within 5 days then it
must send alert email to user again and again.
I had done step 1 and 2 using Sharepoint designer
How to implement step-3

SP Designer only supports sequential workflows; no loops. For loops, use
Visual Studio state machine workflows.

Having said that, I saw a blog on Google about how to make a loop with SP
Designer. It involved using a Choice column to maintain state, If actions,
and the Pause action.
