Select DISTINCT in SharePoint

I am trying to create a View to hold distinct value of a column of a
SharePoint List. With SQL command I can just do "SELECT DISTINCT
column" to achieve this. Can I do similar thing on SharePoint? Can
anyone help me how I can select a distinct column from a list and
create a View?
