Security on portal question

I have yet to research this toughly, but I will ask anyway......

We recently installed SPPS, yesterday. I have set the security in the
shareppoitn portal admin to domain users (author).

However, I do not want the users to be abel to get into the management side
of the portal. Should I change this to domain users (reader) at the portl
manager level and then put author right on the documents folder directly?
If I do this during the day will it take a lot of resources? Last time I
change the rights the indexer spun like mad (although it was during a
regular startup that I made the change)

If your sole goal is to preserve the management
function you don't need to do anything else. Author
role does not grant access to manangement functions.
Coordinator role provides management access.
