Searching in Sites Broken

Asked By: Wayne    Date: Sep 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 577

When searching from Portal content from the portal and sites is found.
When searching from within a site, nothing is found.

I believe this is an known problem but I can't seem to find the
solution. Any help is appreciated.

The search mechanisms used in each case are different. Search within sites  uses
the WSS search functionality, requires that you be using SQL Server (not the
desktop version), that Full-text indexing is enabled, and will return results
only for that site  (no other sites or sub-sites). Portal search uses the SPS
search index and will return results for all indexed sources.

This error is where I started researching from:
"SQL Error fetching URL no process is on the other end of the pipe"

I believe the Service Pack 3a removed the BUILTIN\Administrators group
from the SQL Server.

After adding this group back into SQL Server, everything started working
again.
