Searching List Items problem

Asked By: Geoffrey    Date: Sep 11    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 534

I've configured our portal and sites to index individual list items
(we've re-deployed SharePoint numerous times, so it's just the two
default content indexes in there now). The problem with the
directions I read for doing this was that they never mentioned
having to change the order of the site path rules after changing
them, I had to figure this out myself. Now I can search for list
items fine, along with everything else, but a problem I'm running to
is that if a search is performed using the name of any area or site,
I get a flurry of results. The first few results are relevant, but
every single area is showing up in results, even though the search
term is irrelevant to the name of the area, and the area itself.

Now it should be noted that we replaced the out-of-the-box portal
and WSS navigation with an awesome custom navigation scheme with
breadcrumb views, and when a user hovers the mouse pointer over the
navigation links, the areas/subareas and sites/subsites are listed
in a dropdown-like way. I'm sure this is the problem, but has
anyone else had a similar problem after configuring list-item
search? The order of the site path rules are as follows:

NON_PORTAL_CONTENT
<portalname> included
- http://<portalname>/* included
- http://<portalname>/ excluded

PORTAL_CONTENT
<portalname> included
- http://<portalname>/ included
- http://<portalname>/*.aspx excluded
