Searching for files with cusom properties

Asked By: Prince    Date: Jun 19    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 941

Regarding search for custom document properties, here is what I found:

WSS Search did not find them at all.
SPS Search found them in Word but not Adobe pdf files.

(and yes I have adobe pdf searching working as per the directions).

I am wondering if using ifilter 6 instead of 5 might fix that.

Has anyone used ifilter 6 instead of ifilter 5 for adobe files in

Or has anyone have any suggestions about how to get either search to find
adobe pdf (and word) custom document properties??

the adobe  ifilter V6 seems to work well with W2K3 and sharepoint. The
readme with the ifilter  actually says it was tested with both, and it gives
some instruction on how to cache document properties  in the index. It does
not however provide much on how one would do this with custom  properties,
and the 255 charatcter limit is in place for the standard properties listed
and tested.

Just thought anyone trying other ways to get around the 255 character limit
for attributes of a document  in a document library could be saved and
searched would profit from this apparent somewhat dead end.
