Searching by Document Type

Asked By: Lavanya    Date: Feb 14    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 792

Has anyone tried adding a field to the Advanced Search that would
filter the results by document type (doc, pdf, ppt, xls...)? If so,
how was it done, and is it possible at all?

Well, not a fool proof way, but you could just use the URL property that
is already there for documents and search  for containing *.doc, *.ppt

I say not foolproof since files can be uploaded with any extension
regardless of their type  so you won't be 100% guaranteed that something
ending in, say, .doc is actually a Word document.

it's tough to make custom-building 100% fool-proof
anyway. It's not really even a need yet here, but I figured it
would come up sooner or later and I wanted to ask around.
