Searching for dates

Asked By: Ivan    Date: Jan 21    Category: MOSS    Views: 484

This must be simple but I can't search for a particular date. the
search results simply look for numbers in that date but not the actual
date I entered: 12/6/08 in that format.

I have a Date picker as a field in a list. We enter dates there that
pertain to the item in the list. Then, we want retreive that item
later on by date.

I run Moss 2007 (no enterprise)

Without writing code, how can I do a simple search for a particular
date: ie - - 12/6/08 ?

Dates are stored in a universal time code format  which includes both the date
and the time. So that's what gets indexed. Because that's what is indexed I
think you are going to have a hard time getting it to match to a string
formatted date. I think you'll need to create a calculated field  in the list
you want to be able to retrieve by date  and have it store the date as a string.
Then that will be indexed and retrievable based on that indexing. I'm afraid it
just isn't as simple  as you think it should be.

As usual you gave me the correct answer. I'm always coming up with
things that only a few can answer, and one of those few is you.
