Search tool problem

Sorry, but I'm using WSS not portal, but was hoping for some help.
I accidentally and unkowingly broke my Sahrepoint homepage search tool
when doing some edits in Frontapage. I have no idea how. The tool
now only runs a search when you click the green arrow "go" button.
Simply hitting enter on the keyboard does nothing. The tool works
just fine though in doc libraries, lists, sub-sites etc. This is very
frustrating for my 150+ users and is making me look really bad! Any
idea how to fix this problem, or replace the search tool?

I just keep a blank vanilla team site around in case I break anything and
you can copy and paste in front page any elements that may get messed up.
