Search for text in Lists in SPS

Asked By: Zane Garrison         Date: Dec 21, 2005      Category: Sharepoint      Views: 216

I have SPS installed and have it configured for full indexed
searching. However, text that is located in the Description field of
List items does not seem to be searched.
Searching of other web parts works as expected, it is just Lists (for
example: Task Lists) that do not seem to get searched.

Am I missing something in the configuration or is this just the way
that searching works?

By default, SPS is configured  to not index individual list items.
You'll need to make changes to the content index rules for including
and excluding content. Daniel McPherson blogged about how to
accomplish this -

The procedure is a bit tricky (for me it took some more playing
around with the index rules), but this should give you a step in the
right direction.
