Search service offline

Asked By: Karen    Date: Jul 18    Category: Sharepoint    Views: 1785

I attempted to restore my production SharePoint site to my
development environment. All my production web applicatoins are
configured to use ports 80 and 443, and have their own IP addresses.

When I attempted a full farm restore, it failed due to the port
conflict's. Thus the MySite application was created, but portal site
and part's of the assocaited SSP failed.

On my next attempt, I only restored the main portal site and the
SSP. It restored the site and SSP okay, but this time I have error's
associated with the search service. The log's tell me that I do not
have an indexer associated with the SSP, but I do, and the restore
fails to create search db. I copied the production database over to
development database to see if that would solve my issue, it didn't.

In my event log's I see

Event ID 6483 Source: Office SharePoint Server
Application synchronization failed for
Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchService.

Did you have any ifilters installed previously, specifically the pdf ifilter and
have you re-installed these ?

Generally, when I have seen the message below "Object reference not set to an
instance of an object." Its because its been told to index pdf's, say, but the
pdf ifilter is either not installed or is misconfigured
